Is this volunteer work?
No. All staff receive a paycheck every two weeks. Salaries vary a bit depending on the staff position and seasons worked at camp.
How old do I have to be to work at camp?
Applicants for summer camp support staff positions must be 15 years of age or older. Applicants for lifeguard positions should be 16 years or older. Applicants for counselor positions should have graduated from high school and be 18 years of age and older.
Do I have to live at camp?
Both Kirchenwald and Nawakwa have resident staff, so… yes. All of our staff live at camp.
Do I have to be there all summer?
Yes. Exceptions to this have been made in limited and specific situations. Talk to the camp directors prior to the summer if you need to be absent.
Do I get any time off?
The camper week runs from Sunday afternoon through Friday evening. Summer staff have Saturday and Sunday mornings off.
Is there any kind of training involved?
Yes. The first two weeks of the summer are devoted to training the staff.
What if I don’t get out of school until after staff training begins?
You won’t be the first person this has ever happened to. Talk to the camp director. We may be able to work with you.
