Dear Friends of Lutheran Camping Corporation,
Grace and peace to you in this New Year. With gratitude and confidence in God’s guiding presence among us, we are pleased to share important and encouraging news. After careful discernment and prayerful conversation, the Board of Directors has appointed Richard “Dick” Peterson as our Interim Executive Director. We are deeply thankful for the steady support, patience, and encouragement you have shown during this season of transition, and we look forward to the days ahead with renewed hope.
Dick brings decades of experience in Lutheran outdoor ministry and nonprofit leadership. Over the course of his career, he has served in many positions, including camp director, executive director, and, most recently, as Intentional Interim CEO, supporting multiple Lutheran camps across North Carolina, Florida, and Georgia. He has demonstrated experience in guiding organizations through transition, strengthening staff structures, supporting boards, streamlining financial systems, and helping camps achieve successful American Camp Association accreditation. He is widely respected for his servant leadership, steady presence, and ability to build trust during times of change.
Dick’s background also includes extensive experience in staff and volunteer development, fundraising, public relations, and program leadership. A gifted communicator and mentor, he has spent more than 35 years inspiring staff, volunteers, and constituents through presentations, training, and relationship-building. Above all, he understands camps not simply as programs, but as sacred places where faith is formed, leaders are shaped, and lives are changed.
As Dick begins his work with us, we also want to lift up and sincerely thank our dedicated staff, who continue to faithfully lead each day. Even amid the transition, they are ensuring smooth daily operations and working diligently to prepare for a strong summer camping season. Their commitment, professionalism, and care for our camps and one another are a true gift to this ministry, and we are profoundly grateful for their leadership.
This moment marks not just an interim season, but an opportunity—an opportunity to stabilize, strengthen, and imagine faithfully what God is calling the Lutheran Camping Corporation to be in the years ahead. With your continued prayers and partnership, we are confident that our ministry will continue to thrive and bless generations to come.
Thank you for walking with us, praying for this ministry, and believing in the life-changing impact of Lutheran camping. We invite you to join us in welcoming Dick Peterson and in continuing to support the mission we share.
With gratitude and hope,
The Board of the Lutheran Camping Corporation
